The Yeti 1500X (SKU 36300) is Goal Zero's older 1,516 Wh station, still on sale alongside the newer Yeti 1500 (SKU 37300). Read listings carefully: the names differ by one letter, but the batteries differ in kind. The 1500X uses NMC cells rated for 500 cycles to 80 % capacity (1C, full charge and discharge, 25 °C); the new Yeti 1500 uses LiFePO4 rated for 4,000 cycles to the same 80 %. Because both count to 80 %, the two figures compare directly (how makers define cycle life).

The numbers that decide backup use

Goal Zero rates 2,000 W continuous and 3,500 W surge from two AC outlets. That starts the top-freezer refrigerator (1,200 W) and the 1/2 HP sump pump (2,150 W). The circular saw's 3,600 W start is just above the surge rating.

Using the 0.85 factor explained on the methodology page, 1,516 Wh × 0.85 ÷ 47 W gives about 27.4 hours for the top-freezer refrigerator at its yearly-average draw.

Charging is the weak point

The 1500X has no built-in wall charger. With the included 120 W power supply a full charge takes 14 hours; with the optional 600 W supply, 3 hours. Solar input is up to 600 W. Operating temperature is 32–104 °F, without a separate charge range — so a cold garage below freezing is outside the published range.

The page contradicts itself on expansion: one block says "Chainable: With Yeti Link and Tank Expansion batteries", the general block says "Chainable: No". No UPS switch-over time is published. Warranty is 2 years.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Yeti 1500X LiFePO4?

No. Goal Zero lists "Li-ion NMC", rated for 500 cycles to 80 % capacity. The newer Yeti 1500 is the LiFePO4 model.

How long does it take to charge from the wall?

14 hours with the included 120 W power supply, or 3 hours with the optional 600 W supply, per Goal Zero.

Can it run a refrigerator?

On the published numbers, yes: the top-freezer refrigerator needs 360 W running and 1,200 W to start. At its 47 W yearly average, 1,516 Wh × 0.85 ÷ 47 W gives about 27.4 hours.

Can it be used in freezing temperatures?

Goal Zero gives an operating range of 32–104 °F, so below freezing is outside its published range.

What warranty does it have?

2 years, per Goal Zero. The newer Yeti 1500 lists 5 years.
