Generac GP8000E with COsense (model 7715)

Generac GP8000E (7715): 8,000 W running / 10,000 W starting on gasoline, COsense; which GP8000E model numbers the 2026 recall covers. Maker specs, linked.

Which version: Model 7715 (49ST/CSA, variant G0077151) with COsense. GP8000E also exists as 7676 (50ST), as G0076755 'with Cord', as 8929 (50ST) and as older models without COsense — recall coverage differs by model number.

Recall check: CPSC recall 26-407 (April 16, 2026; carburetor fuel leak, fire and burn hazard) covers GP8000E models G0077150, G0076754 and G0081540 in a limited serial range, not the G0077151 variant on the maker page used here. Owners should check model and serial number against the recall notice before use. Generac's own page for G0077151 links a spec sheet filed under G0077150, one of the recalled variants — check the label on the unit, not the web page.

Generac presents the GP8000E as “a favorite for emergency power or recreational use”. This card is model 7715 (variant G0077151), the 49-state/CSA configuration with COsense. The same GP8000E name is also used for model 7676 (50 state), a corded version, model 8929 and older units without COsense; recall coverage differs by model number, so read the label on your unit. It runs on gasoline only; the web spec table's “Fuel Type: Gaseous” is an error.

Running vs starting watts

Generac rates it at 8,000 running and 10,000 starting watts. The starting figure lasts only while a motor starts; continuous loads must fit under 8,000 W. Generac's page gives two different percentages for the extra starting capacity of its PowerRush technology; we use the spec table's 10,000 W. On its own it can start a 1/2 HP well pump, a 13,500 BTU RV air conditioner or a 7-1/4 in circular saw.

Run time

The spec table and brochure give 10 hours at 50 % load on the 7.9-gallon tank; the page description says “up to 11 hour run-time at 50% load”. We use the 10-hour figure and do not extrapolate to other loads. It is a conventional generator, not an inverter; Generac gives no harmonic-distortion figure, so check the owner's manual before connecting sensitive electronics.

Safety and recall check

COsense (“Stops. Alerts. Saves.”) reduces the risk but does not make indoor, garage or porch use safe: CPSC's outdoor-only rule applies.

CPSC recall 26-407 (April 16, 2026) covers GP8000E models G0077150, G0076754 and G0081540 in a limited serial range: fuel can leak from the carburetor when the tank is first filled. G0077151, the variant on this card, is not listed. The model and serial number are on a label on the side of the unit; check them on Generac's recall page before use. An earlier handle recall (CPSC 23-040) also names the GP8000E; the model numbers it lists are not 7715.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Generac GP8000E run a well pump or an RV air conditioner?
By the figures we hold, yes, one at a time: its 10,000 starting watts exceed the starting figures of our 1/2 HP well pump and 13,500 BTU RV air conditioner. Check combined loads in the calculator.
Is the GP8000E RV-ready (TT-30R)?
No. Generac lists two 5-20R 20 A GFCI duplexes and an L14-30R 120/240 V 30 A outlet, with no TT-30R or 14-50R.
Is the GP8000E CARB compliant?
Not this configuration. Model 7715 is the 49-state/CSA version; Generac's 50-state GP8000E is model 7676.
Can two GP8000E generators be paralleled?
Generac does not publish parallel capability for this model.
How loud is the GP8000E?
Generac publishes no noise figure; the “Quiet Test” field in its spec table is empty.
