The WGen9500DFc is Westinghouse's carbureted dual-fuel 9,500 W generator with a CO sensor, sold “as a backup power source for larger homes” and for travel trailers or jobsites. It is not the WGen9500DF, which has no CO sensor, and not the WGen9500DFc EFI, which is fuel-injected, weighs 221 lb instead of 212.1 lb and has longer published run times. Engine (457 cc), outlets and wattage are the same across all three. The product page is live, but Westinghouse does not list this version in its catalog and showed it as unavailable for online purchase on the day we read it.

Running vs starting watts

On gasoline: 9,500 running and 12,500 peak watts. On propane: 8,500 running and 11,200 peak. The headline 12,500 W is the peak figure, available only while a motor starts; continuous loads have to fit under the running figure. On its own it can start a 1/2 HP well pump, a 13,500 BTU RV air conditioner or a chest freezer on either fuel; for combined loads use the largest-motor rule.

Run time

Westinghouse publishes 12 hours at 25 % load and 8 hours at 50 % load on the 6.6-gallon gasoline tank, and 7 hours at 50 % load on propane; the description ties the propane figure to a 20 lb tank. We show those points only and do not extrapolate. It is a conventional generator, not an inverter: output frequency follows engine speed, and the description gives no harmonic-distortion figure, so check the owner's manual before connecting sensitive electronics.

Safety

The spec table lists a CO sensor, and the description calls it “a carbon monoxide (CO) sensor with automatic shutdown”. The sensor reduces the risk; it does not make indoor, garage or porch use safe, and CPSC's outdoor-only rule still applies. Our CPSC recall search found no recall for this model.

Frequently asked questions

Can the WGen9500DFc run a central air conditioner?
Westinghouse's description says the L14-30R and 14-50R outlets can power “major appliances like the air conditioner” through a transfer switch, without naming an AC size. Our appliance data has no central air conditioner, so we cannot give a yes or no; enter the starting figure from your condenser's data plate in the calculator.
Is the WGen9500DFc RV-ready (TT-30R)?
It has no TT-30R outlet. It has two 5-20R duplexes, an L14-30R and a 120/240 V 14-50R (50 A); a 30 A RV would need an adapter.
Is the WGen9500DFc CARB compliant?
The page contradicts itself: the spec table says “CARB Compliant: No”, while the product tags include “CARB Compliant”. We follow the spec table. If you are in California, confirm with Westinghouse; the EFI version is the one Westinghouse describes as compliant in all 50 states.
Can two WGen9500DFc generators be paralleled?
Westinghouse does not publish parallel capability for this model on the page we read.
How loud is the WGen9500DFc?
Westinghouse prints 74 dBA with no measuring distance, so the figure cannot be compared with ratings taken at a stated distance.
