How many watts does an LED bulb use — and how long can a power station run lights?

A 60 W-equivalent A19 LED bulb (Feit A800/827/10KLED) uses 9–10 W per Feit. How long power stations run one bulb or several, by the site's formula.

Feit's page states 800 lumens, 120 V.

The representative bulb is Feit Electric's A800/827/10KLED, a non-dimmable A19 that replaces a 60 W incandescent and gives 800 lumens at 120 V. Feit's product page contradicts itself: the description says 9 W, the specification table says 10 W. The site uses the higher figure, which keeps the runtimes on the cautious side.

What changes the draw

An LED bulb draws a steady wattage while it is on, so the variables are how many bulbs and how many hours. Brighter bulbs list higher wattages on their packaging. The page assumes one bulb for 6 hours a day, 60 Wh; for several bulbs, multiply the wattage before reading a station's table.

No starting surge

There is no motor, no starting figure, and the Champion chart lists LED lights among loads that need no extra starting watts. Every station on the site with an AC outlet covers one bulb.

Reading the tables

Runtime is for one bulb at 10 W with nothing else connected. At loads this small a station's own standby consumption, which the site does not model, becomes a larger share of the total, so treat long runtimes as an upper limit. Example: the DARAN R100 record has no maker factor, so the default 0.85 applies: 89.6 Wh × 0.85 ÷ 10 W = 7.6 hours. The Jackery Explorer 300, with Jackery's own 0.85 factor, gives 292 × 0.85 ÷ 10 = 24.8 hours.

Pass = continuous output ≥ 10 W. Runtime = capacity × maker's factor ÷ 10 W, nothing else plugged in. Method.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts does a 60 W-equivalent LED bulb use?
Feit's product page for the A800/827/10KLED says 9 W in its description and 10 W in its specification table, for 800 lumens at 120 V. This site uses 10 W.
How long can a power station run LED lights?
For one bulb at 10 W and the default 0.85 factor, the 89.6 Wh DARAN R100 lasts 89.6 × 0.85 ÷ 10 = 7.6 hours. Five bulbs (50 W) on the 292 Wh Jackery Explorer 300, with Jackery's 0.85 factor, last 292 × 0.85 ÷ 50 = 5.0 hours.
Do LED bulbs need starting watts?
No. The Champion wattage chart lists LED lights among loads that need no extra starting watts.
