How many watts does a 55-inch TV use — and what can run it?
A 55-inch 4K LED TV (LG 55QNED85TU) uses 76.9 W in on mode per ENERGY STAR. Which power stations can run it, and for how many hours.
ENERGY STAR publishes 142 kWh/yr for this set, but that is a 24-hour average including standby, so it is not used as an hourly average here; runtime uses the on-mode draw.
The representative set is the LG 55QNED85TU, a 55-inch, edge-lit 4K LED TV. Its ENERGY STAR record reports 76.9 W in on mode under the federal test procedure, plus 0.30 W in standby. That on-mode figure is used as the running draw. The same record lists 142 kWh a year, a 24-hour average that includes standby, so it is not used as an hourly figure.
What changes the draw
Picture brightness is the big variable: a brighter picture mode drives the backlight harder. The ENERGY STAR record notes the set has automatic brightness control that is not switched on by default; turning it on lets the set dim in a dark room. A game console or streaming box is a separate load — see the PS5 page.
No starting surge
A TV is electronics with no motor start, so there is no starting figure. Every station on the site with an AC outlet covers 76.9 W continuous; the smallest station's 80 W leaves almost nothing for anything else.
Reading the tables
Runtime is at 76.9 W, rounded to 77 W in the tables. The page assumes 5 hours of viewing a day, 385 Wh. Example: the Jackery Explorer 300 record carries Jackery's own 0.85 factor: 292 Wh × 0.85 ÷ 76.9 W = 3.2 hours.
Power stations that can run it
Pass = continuous output ≥ 77 W. Runtime = capacity × maker's factor ÷ 77 W, nothing else plugged in. Method.
